Disclaimer
Halal Sarmaya publishes educational research. Nothing on this site is a fatwa, a religious ruling, a certification, or personalised financial advice, and nothing on it should be relied on as any of those things.
We are not a Shariah supervisory board and hold no authority to issue rulings. We are not authorised or regulated to provide investment advice in any jurisdiction, and we do not provide it. We do not know your circumstances, your obligations, your tax position or your risk tolerance, and we do not tell any reader what to do with their money.
Every assessment on this site describes a type of product as documented, measured against the published standard named on the page, on the review date stated. Standards are revised, provider documentation changes, and a conclusion reached under one standard does not carry over to another. Investment carries risk, including the loss of capital invested.
Where recognised scholars differ on a question, we set out the positions and attribute them rather than choosing between them. A reader who requires a single answer should take the specific documentation to a qualified scholar, and the financial question to a licensed adviser in their own jurisdiction.
We do not assess named companies, funds or providers, and no statement here should be read as a claim about any identified business.
Privacy
We collect as little as the site can function on.
Newsletter. If you subscribe, we store the email address you give us and the date you gave it, for the purpose of sending the monthly briefing. We do not sell, rent or share subscriber lists, and we do not pass addresses to providers we write about. Every issue carries a one-click unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing deletes the address from the active list.
Correspondence. If you email us or use the contact form, we keep the message so we can answer it and, where it prompts a correction, so we can show what we were told and when. We do not add correspondents to the newsletter list.
Analytics. We use aggregate page-level statistics to see which explainers are read. We do not build profiles of individual readers, we do not run advertising trackers, and we do not use cookies for advertising purposes.
Your rights. You can ask what we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected, or ask for it to be deleted, by writing to hello@halalsarmaya.com. Where the UK GDPR or an equivalent regime applies to your data, we handle such requests on the basis it requires.
Terms of use
By using this site you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, do not use the site.
Permitted use. You may read, print and quote from this site for personal and non-commercial purposes, with attribution and a link to the page quoted. You may not republish substantial extracts, sell the content, or present it as your own research or as the output of a Shariah board.
Accuracy. We take reasonable care and we cite our sources, but we do not warrant that the site is free of error or that a standard has not been revised since a note’s review date. We publish corrections when we find an error and we publish them as corrections.
Liability. To the extent permitted by law, we accept no liability for any loss arising from a decision taken in reliance on this site. This is educational material, and the decision and its consequences remain yours.
External links. Links to standard-setting bodies, publishers and provider documentation are given so you can read the primary source. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for their content.
Governing law. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, without prejudice to any consumer rights you have under the law of your own country of residence.
Affiliate disclosure
Some links on this site may be affiliate links, meaning that we could receive a payment if you open an account or subscribe to a service after following one. Where that is the case, it is stated in plain words on the page carrying the link, next to the link itself rather than in a footer.
Three commitments follow from that, and they are not negotiable. A verdict is never for sale: no provider has paid or can pay to be assessed, to be assessed favourably, or to be left out. Affiliate arrangements have no bearing on what we cover, on the standard applied, or on the conclusion reached. And we assess product types rather than named providers, which means an affiliate relationship with one company cannot influence the outcome of a note in the way it could if we published provider rankings.
If you would rather not use an affiliate link, go to the provider directly. It costs you nothing either way, and it changes nothing about what you read here.
